Lee Residents Association

Welcome to the website for Lee Residents Association, also known as the LRA. Lee Residents Association represents the interests of local people, businesses, and runs projects and events to promote the community at large.

Making Lee an even better place to live and work.

To support our members we also produce our magazine called the 'Review' which has interesting articles and information to keep you informed and up to date.

It was late in 1972 that a founder member, Mike Leopold discovered that developers were intending to submit plans to fill in Elmore Lake behind the Inn-by-the-Sea and build houses on the site.

A small group met, resulting in a steering committee being formed supported by some very influential members who saw the birth of "LoSRA" in February 1973. The development on Elmore Lake was successfully stopped and the lake is still there for enjoyment by all.

This was the first success of many in the ensuing years representing residents and improving the environment of Lee-on-the-Solent.

Vision4Lee was formed in 2004, with the purpose of identifying ways to revitalise Lee-on-the-Solent economically and as a vibrant place to live. Lee on Solent Residents Association and Vision4Lee merged in November 2008.

In the early days communication was through the Newsletter which consisted of two typed pages, which is extremely different today. With the improvement of technology a full review booklet is produced with lots of information as well as the website which was launched in 2020.

Time moves on and as we entered 2020 the committee believed it was time to update the look and feel of how the Association was presented both online, the website and the new look Review.

Historically we focused largely on representing residents needs. In the last few years we have expanded our role by providing more events for our members and the community as well as helping enhance public spaces.

The association now has more than 1,600 members and is managed by an annually elected committee.

Making a difference in Lee on the Solent.

The Association is a non-profit organisation formed in 1972 to represent residents, to help to improve the environment of Lee-on-the-Solent and make it an even more attractive and thriving place to live, work and visit.

In so doing it will, from time to time, consult with residents on significant matters, such as planning and other local issues, and encourage their involvement in its activities and projects.

Examples of making a difference in Lee include financial assistance towards the cost of the Windsock and various interpretation boards along the sea front. It also supports local community events which are non-commercial and open to all.
